Hydrogen

Postby Samantha Hoegl Roy 2C » Sun Oct 14, 2018 11:22 pm

what are the principal quantum levels of the H-atom? I know they exist and that electrons go from one level to another, but why do these levels exist? and what are they? I am a little confused! :)

Principle quantum levels are similar to the electron orbitals and suborbitals. The energy levels are described by quantum mechanics, hence the name quantum levels. This means that each level has a certain minimum energy required for the electron and if the energy of the electron is between two levels, it will stay in the lower level.

The principal quantum levels of a Hydrogen atom correspond to different values of the principal quantum number n. Electrons with higher energy are found on higher energy levels.
