Hey guys,
I was just wondering whether or not spin counted as being a part of an orbital. In the textbook questions, I don't think they were counted but im unsure as to why they aren't.
spin part of orbitals?

Re: spin part of orbitals?
Spin is the property of an electron so it doesn't indicate anything about the orbital. All it does is say whether whichever one of the orbital's two electrons is spinning up or down.

Re: spin part of orbitals?
Lavelle introduced spin by explaining the electron spin experiment in class. It just demonstrates the spin on the electron, but nothing to do with the orbital itself.

Re: spin part of orbitals?
The quantum number for the spin of an electron will be either +1/2 or -1/2 but I don't think we will be learning how to determine the spin of a specific electron in this class.

The spin of an electron is the 4th quantum number.
