Degeneracy Formula

During my discussion the TA went over degeneracy and basically summed it up to the equation 2l + 1 to find how many degenerate orbitals there are. Besides this formula, if it even is correct or relevant, is there anything else important we need to understand conceptually about degeneracy?

Degeneracy is the amount of orbitals with the same energy. Simply, it is how many orbitals in a sub-shell. For example, p has 3 orbitals in one sub-shell: px, py, and pz.
