Core Electrons

Postby Bronson Mathos 1H » Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:38 pm

Hi, I was just looking for a brief explanation/clarification on core electrons as mentioned in today's lecture about writing electron structures. When you use a core electron in writing a configuration, do you have to use the element that is at the end of the previous row? Or can you use any previous element?

Hi, I think that when giving the shorthand electron configurations, you should almost always start with the noble gas then list the other orbitals/shells so that the electron configuration properly represents the valence electrons of that atom.
