UA Worksheets Question and ml

I was working on a problem from a UA worksheets and I was wondering how I should go about solving this problem.

The probability of finding an electron in the xz-plane if it is in the 2py state is ________?

Would it be zero if the node is there?

Hi! I believe you are correct! Since the 2py orbital has a nodal xz plane, the probability of finding an electron there would be zero. Hope this helps!

Since there is a nodal plane present there, and since nodal planes signify zero electron density, the probability of finding an electron there would be zero. So yes, you are right!

The 2px state has a yz nodal plane, the 2py state has an xz nodal plane, and the 2pz state has an xy nodal plane. Nodal planes are areas where the probability of finding an electron is zero.
