Quantum number ms and wave function

Postby Melody Haratian 2J » Tue Nov 10, 2020 7:36 pm

Hi guys!
Do we need to know ms to specify an orbital or do we only need to use the first three quantum numbers to specify the orbital?
Thanks!!

You only need to know the first three.
ms is to differentiate the 2 electrons in an orbital.

Hi! You only need the first 3 quantum numbers to specify an orbital (in which there're 2 electrons), and you'll need to include ms to specify which electron it is.
