Cr+ Ground State Electron Configuration

Postby Racquel Fox 2I » Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:39 pm

Write the ground-state electron configuration for Cr+ and give the first two quantum numbers for the last electron.
Answer: Cr: [Ar]4s13d5, Cr+: [Ar] 3d5

Why would the 4s orbital only have 1 electron?

Cr is just a special exception that you have to memorize. It is the same thing with Cu.

I'm pretty sure that the 4s orbital has 1 electron because that is more stable that way. Lavelle explained it in the lecture on 10/26/2020.
