The Stern and Gerlach Experiment

Postby Bronson Mathos 1H » Wed Dec 09, 2020 3:02 pm

Hello, I was just wondering if there is anything we need to know about the Stern and Gerlach Experiment beyond the fact that it was used to discover the electron spin( the 4th quantum number) of an electron in an orbital?

Probably not, I think Dr. Lavelle only brought that up to show how we first discovered electron spin. Whatever you just said is probably the extent of what we need to know about the S-G experiment.

We most likely don't need to know the specific details of the Stern and Gerlach Experiment. I think Professor Lavelle wanted to describe how the electron spin developed and just intended for us to use this information as a reference.
