For part b of 2A.9 from the textbook how do you get Fe^2+ from the configuration given, [Ar]3d^7, why isn't it Cr?

In part b, the ground-state electron configuration for M2+ ion is given as [Ar]3d6. Because 2 electrons would be taken from 4s, M would have [Ar]3d5 4s2 as a ground-state electron configuration. Therefore, M is Fe.
