Orbitals & sub-shells

Postby Sei Lam 3F » Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:52 pm

Could someone clarify the relationship/differences between shells, sub-shells, and orbitals? Thanks!

Orbitals are the regions where an electron can be found.
- s sub shell 1 orbital, p sub shell 3 orbitals, d sub shell 5 orbitals, f orbital 7 orbitals
Shells are the paths around the nucleus where electrons move. It is the principal quantum number. Subshells are found within the shell and are s, p, d, f.
