Complete the electron configuration for P.
How do you know which element you are able to start off with so that the configuration isn't long? For example, they started with the element [Ne]. Why did they decide to go off that element?

You use the closest noble gas before the element you are writing the electron configuration for. In this case, the closest noble gas before P is Ne, but for Se, for example, you would go from Ar.
