Homework #25

Postby 206190205 » Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:41 pm

Give the chemical symbol for the element with the ground-state electron configuration [Ar]42^2 3d^1.
For the l and the ml values, are we supposed to memorize which values are related to each orbital type? or is there a way to find that information mathematically?

The chemical symbol for the element with the ground-state electron configuration [Ar]4s23d1 should be scandium. For the l value, l = 0 -> s orbital, l = 1 -> p orbital, l = 2 -> d orbital, l = 3 -> f orbital. ml can be any integer -l to l.
