Noble Gases and Electron Affinity
I understand that electron affinity increases as we move right and up the periodic table. However, since noble gases have full outer shells of electrons, do the trends of this table not apply to them? Or is there a special rule of certain noble gases and their electron affinity?

Re: Noble Gases and Electron Affinity
Yeah, you're right the trend doesn't apply to noble gases because they do not have an affinity for electrons.

Re: Noble Gases and Electron Affinity
I wouldn't say that the trend doesn't apply to the noble gases, but think more about how noble gases are most stable with their already filled valence shell. Dr. Lavelle also mentioned that adding electrons (electron affinity) requires energy and makes the atom unstable.

Re: Noble Gases and Electron Affinity
If you look at electron affinity values, all noble gasses have an electron affinity of 0.
