Electron Configurations Exceptions?

Postby Kelsey Jug 1J » Wed Oct 26, 2016 6:08 pm

The solutions manual for electron configuration problems does not seem take into account the exceptions to electron configuration orbital patterns (unless I'm mistaken).

Should we not take into account the exceptions on the quiz when writing electron configurations on the quiz?

The only exceptions you need to know are for the configurations of Cr and Cu.

If you can make the d orbital consisting of 5 or 10 electrons using the electrons from that s orbital do you do so? (Ex: Quiz 2 #2 electron configuration of Fe+3)

You always try to have half filled or fully filled configurations so you can always shift electrons between 4s and 3d to do that
