Electron Configurations for D-Groups

So I'm looking at this question:

Give the ground state electron configuration for the following:

Cr^+

I thought it was 3d^3 4s^2.

However, the answer, given by the course reader, is 3d^5. Why is that?

I believe that Cr has a ground state electron configuration of [Ar] 3d^5 4s^1. So my understanding was that when it becomes Cr^+, the electron is taken from the highest energy shell. And being that the 4s is on the end and counts as the highest energy shell even though 3d appears after it, the electron is removed from 4s. So the ground state electron configuration would be [Ar] 3d^5 for Cr^+.
