Copper Ion Electron Configuration
As I have been confused for a while, what is the correct electron configuration for Cu, and furthermore for its ion, Cu+, and Cu2+? Should we write it the way putting 4s ahead of 3d or not? I would highly appreciate someone if they may explain it.

Re: Copper Ion Electron Configuration
Put the 4s after the 3d
Cu: [Ar]3d104s1
Cu+: [Ar]3d10
Cu2+: [Ar]3d9
Cu: [Ar]3d104s1
Cu+: [Ar]3d10
Cu2+: [Ar]3d9

Re: Copper Ion Electron Configuration
Why is copper different in that it doesn't follow the normal order (or pattern on the periodic table) of an electron configuration?
