Removing an Electron
When you remove an electron, can you always tell which electron is going to be removed just by looking at the last part of an electron configuration? For example, 1s2 2s2 2p5, would the electron being removed be from the 2p5 orbital?

Yes, it is always the valence electron (the outermost electron) that will be removed. So yes, in the example you stated, electron from 2p5 will be removed

Yep. The electrons in the outer shell (valence electrons) are the ones that will be removed. The outer most shell is the last part of the electron configuration.

It is always the electron in the outer valence shell. As n goes up, energy goes up and the electron eventually escapes from the atom.

Is this the same case for adding in electrons in the case of anion electron configurations? We always add to the outermost electron shell?

What if the electron configuration were 3d^3 4s^2? Would electrons be removed from the s-orbital or the d-orbital?
