Ground state and electron configuration

Postby Deborah Cheng 1F » Sun Oct 29, 2017 3:52 am

How can you tell if an atom is in the ground state by looking at the electron configuration?

If the electron configuration has the right number, direction, and spacing of the arrows, then the electron is in the ground state.

The electron configuration for electrons at the ground state will be at the lowest energy state possible for that atom.
