Problem 2.54 part d

Postby Rain Taganas 1J » Wed Nov 01, 2017 1:19 am

For problem 2.54 part d, how come [Rn]7s2 6d2 is Thorium and not Rutherfordium? Isn't Thorium in the f block?

This question does not have a part d in the 6th edition of Atkins' Chemical Principles.

If you are using another edition, please state the question itself. It is always best to restate the question since many students will not necessarily have a copy of the text handy when browsing Chemistry Community. It also allows you to specify what portion of the problem you are unclear about. Thanks.

I'm sorry, I mistyped the wrong problem. It was 2.45 part d and the question asked which elements are predicted to have the following ground-state electron configurations: [Rn]7s2 6d2.

Also, is it incorrect to put 6d2 in front of 7s2?
