Lewis Structure
When constructing a Lewis structure, does it matter where the dots are placed with respect to the symbol (top, left, right, bottom)? I believe this question as asked in class yesterday but I didn't hear the answer.

Re: Lewis Structure
just choose the central atom, count the electrons and then place the electrons around the atoms.if theres a charge then place a bracket and write the subscript. but it docent matter unless theres a bond to it.
Re: Lewis Structure
valence electrons are normally written with both s dots on the right then p going: top, left, bottom, top, left, bottom but it doesn't really matter as long as you are keeping track and staying consistent

Re: Lewis Structure
I believe that the response to this question during lecture was that it didn't matter.

Re: Lewis Structure
I believe that as long as the valence electrons are correct then the order of the pair of lone electrons doesn’t matter.

Re: Lewis Structure
From what I have heard and what I have been doing, it really does not matter where you put the dots, just as long as you have the correct number of valence electrons.

Re: Lewis Structure
I don't think it matters for lewis structures. But I believe it does matter once we start drawing out the shapes and structure of molecules.

Re: Lewis Structure [ENDORSED]
It does not matter where your lone pairs go or really where your bonds are as long as you have all of the electrons and the correct formal charge.
