Electron Configuration Exceptions
How many configuration exceptions are we supposed to memorize on top of Chromium and Copper? Also, is it true that all exceptions to the rule are below Cr and Cu on the periodic table?

You shouldn't have to memorize any electron configurations, you should just know how to figure out the electron configurations of an element when asked. So you should know how to read the periodic table (s-, p-, and d-blocks) and be able to write down the corresponding e- configuration using the rules/method we learned in class. Also, Dr. Lavelle said we'll only be tested on the first 4 rows of the period table (hydrogen to krypton).
Yeah it's true that all the elements in the same column as Cr and Cu are exceptions to the rules.

I don't believe all the elements in the column below the chromium and copper exceptions follow the same pattern because the electron configuration for Tungsten, an element two periods below Chromium, is [Xe] 4f14 5d4 6s2? Does anyone know why Tungsten does not follow the exception, but in the same period, gold does?

Oh thanks for letting me know, I didn't know that! So I guess tungsten is the exception to the exception?
From high school chem I know that the rules get more complicated as you move down the periodic table, but I wouldn't worry too much about it since we should really just focus on the first 4 rows.
