Electron configuration
Does it matter if the first spin you write is up or down as long as you are filling up all the orbitals while satisfying the laws?

Re: Electron configuration
I don't think it matters too much, but only as long as all the other laws are followed

Re: Electron configuration
I don't think knowing if the electron is spinning up or down (negative or positive) is necessary. As long as you follow the laws for the other things you should be fine

Re: Electron configuration
The direction of the spin does not matter as long as you fill in all of the orbitals with the same direction spin first.

Re: Electron configuration
The direction does not matter as long as you follow the usual configuration rules.

Re: Electron configuration
Clarification question: so if you have a 3p^6 orbital you can fill the three orbitals first three electrons as spin down, then the next three as spin up as long as they are paired, it doesn't matter if you write spin up or spin down first?

Re: Electron configuration
It doesn't matter as long as they are going in parallel with each other to fill all the orbitals, but conventionally they start with a (+1/2) or up arrow spin.
