Cerium Electron Configuration

Postby Meghanhe1l » Mon Oct 29, 2018 11:04 pm

In the textbook, it wrote the electron configuration of Cerium as [XE] 4f1 5d1 6s2. Why is it 4f1 if Cerium is the second element in the f-block row?

Cerium is the first element in the f-block. Lanthanum, which comes before it, is the d1. The f-block is only the two rows separated from the periodic table.
