The electron configuration of Ru is [Kr] 4d^7 5s^1.
Why is the electron configuration not [Kr] 4d^6 5s^2? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a filled 5s and a partially filled 4d rather than a half-filled 5s and partially filled 4d?
