Homework Focus 2A

Postby Anne Kim 3F » Tue Nov 13, 2018 8:38 pm

Number 5 in Focus 2A asks for electron configuration of Cu^2+. The answer is [Ar]3d^10 instead of 3d^9. Why is it so?

If this problem is from the 7th edition textbook, the correct answer is [Ar]3d^10 because the question asks for the electron configuration of Cu+ not Cu^2+.

If it did ask for Cu 2+ then it is most likely a textbook error.

I think that the answer the textbook gave corresponds to Cu+ and not Cu2+.
