Bromine Electron Configuration

Postby Dustin Shin 2I » Fri Nov 16, 2018 5:58 pm

One of the questions on the midterm asked for the full ground state electron configuration for bromine. I wrote the answer as [Ar] 3d104s24p5 but I only got half points for it. I'm figuring since it is one electron away from reaching noble gas configuration, that is why I only got half points but I am not entirely sure. Can someone explain this?

I believe the reason you would have received half credit for this answer is because it asked for the full electron configuration. You gave the short hand noble gas version. Your configuration was correct it just should have started at 1s2 etc.

Ground state electron configuration starts from the beginning 1s2.
