Paired & Parallel Electrons

How are electrons parallel and/or paired? Is there something that one can solve to figure it out?

When electrons are parallel to each other, they have the same spin, while paired electrons have opposite spins. Electrons are unpaired first, and then once more electrons are added, they will get paired.

Parallel electrons have the same spin state, meaning they both go up or both go down. Paired electrons, on the other hand, have opposite spin states, meaning one goes up and one goes down.

Two electrons are parallel if they have the same spin ↿↿

This describes the way electrons fill subshells

For example, the diagram for Carbon would look like:

2p ↿ ↿ _ (parallel)
2s ↿⇂ (paired)
1s ↿⇂

Carbon's electronic configuration = 1s^2 2s^2 2p^2

I recommend looking up "orbital diagram for carbon" on google

Parallel electrons have the same spin and will have the same sign for the spin magnetic quantum number while paired electrons have opposite spins so one will have a negative spin magnetic QN will the other will be positive.
