hw problem 2A.5

Postby Joanna Mendoza 3J » Sun Oct 27, 2019 1:14 pm

the solutions manual states that the electron configuration for Ga^3+ is [Xe] 4f^14 5d^10 6s^2. why is an electron taken from the f orbital instead of the s orbital to make the d orbital more stable?

It is because f is the outermost orbital.
