Can someone explain why Cr and Cu are exceptions?

They are the exceptions because a full d orbital and a partially full 4s shell is more stable than an almost full d orbital and a full 4s shell.

These elements are exceptions because it's easier for them to remove a 4s electron and move it to the 3d subshell, which will result in a more stable half-filled or completely filled subshell.
