Electron Configurations and f orbitals

Postby 704578485 » Tue Nov 03, 2015 4:29 pm

I am studying for Wednesday's midterm by looking through a workbook of the past 10 midterms of Dr. Lavelle's class. I encountered one or two electron configuration questions in the earlier exams that involved atoms at the n=5 level and containing f orbitals. However, I know some of the rules we learned are different when you get to those energy levels and I remember in lecture Dr. Lavelle said we will not be dealing with those elements. Is there a chance it could show up on the midterm? If so what are the additional rules we would need to know?

Because Dr. Lavelle said in lecture that you would not be dealing with those levels, I would not worry about those.
