p orbital electrons

Postby 605720459 1I » Fri Oct 15, 2021 12:19 pm

In the p orbital, does the first electron always go to px before py and pz, or does the order not matter?

all the three p orbitals have same energy so while filling the p orbitals we can fill any one of the Px, Py or Pz first. however, it is natural to fill Px first because in order due to the simplicity of going left to right with positive spins first.

Hi,
All three p orbitals have the exact same energy, and because of it the electrons will fill any of them first, so it does not really matter. But so simplistic and understanding purposes, we usually designate the electron to fill px first, then py, then pz. But there won't be limitations as to where the electrons go on the atomic level.
