Electron Configuration
Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows if the order in which we write electron configurations is important? Like when we're dealing with elements in 3d/4s orbitals?

Yes, the order in which we write electron configurations is important because we always have to write them starting from the lower energy states to the higher energy states. It goes 1s 2s2p 3s3p3d 4s4p etc.

Hi, the order in which we write electron configurations is important. The electrons are arranged in energy levels from lowest to highest. The most stable energy level is closest to the nucleus of the atom and it can only hold up to two electrons.

Hello! The order in which you write the electron configuration is very important. In today's lecture, the professor talked about how it is important that we write the electron configurations from the lowest possible energy state to the highest possible energy state. This is the order from lowest to highest energy states 1s 2s2p 3s3p3d 4s4p. However, be sure to watch out for the exceptions like Chromium and Copper.

Yes, the order that you write the orbitals in is important because, if I'm not mistaken, it goes from lowest to highest energy level.

Yes, it is definitely important to write electron configuration in order. Besides from the exceptions gone over in the lecture that you can memorize, you must write it from lowest to highest energy state.

And yes writing electron configuration in order is important for identifying the element. When writing an electron configuration, first write the energy level (the period), then the subshell to be filled, and the superscript, which is the number of electrons in that subshell. https://www.chem.fsu.edu/chemlab/chm1045/e_config.html This website has useful information on writing an electron configuration, as well as examples and helpful charts.

Yes it is important to know the electron configuration and must write it from the lowest energy level to the highest energy level. Energy level - 1s, 2s,2p,3s,3p,3d,4s,4p,4d,4f and so on.

Electron configurations are written from lowest to highest energy. This is important because even though 4s technically comes before 3d on the periodic table, 3d still has a lower energy level, so will be written first. For example, the electron configuration for scandium would be [Ar]3d1 4s2, not [Ar] 4s2 3d1.

Yes the order is important because the order is supposed to go from lowest energy to highest energy.

You always write 3d before 4s because it goes from lowest to highest energy level. It goes 1s,2s,2p,3s,3p,3d,4s,4p,4d,4f.
