Electrons and Waves

Postby Bailey Herbert 2L » Fri Oct 15, 2021 11:37 pm

Hi,
I know that in lecture we were told electrons are particles and can also behave as waves. Would these waves be light waves? Or would they be closer to a sound wave? Or are they simply waves of energy? Also, would they be waves with high frequency or low frequency? Do they have high or low energy?
Thanks!

Hi!

I think I understand your question- forgive me if I am wrong. What we learned is that electrons can behave both like particles and waves pertains to the behavior of elections. Electrons are similar to light waves in their behavior (think about the double slit experiment and how the interference patterns acted like ripples in a pond - this would happen with light waves too). The frequency/energy levels are related (higher energy = higher frequency, and vice versa), which makes sense because we know electrons' energy levels can change.
