Why do Electrons spin
Hi, this may be a kind of basic question, but I was wondering why exactly do electrons when paired together spin in opposite directions?

Re: Why do Electrons spin
I'm not quite sure if this is the answer you were looking for, but I think it's because if they didn't they'd have the same quantum state, and since this isn't really possible they need to have different spins to differentiate them.

Re: Why do Electrons spin
I think they try to stabilize each other by canceling each other's spin out so that there isn't a net magnetic field.

Re: Why do Electrons spin
I agree that it might have something to do with magnetism, but I always thought of it not as actual, physical spinning but as some sort of mathematical solution that fits the quantum model and experimentally observed data (that every electron has to have a unique set of quantum numbers within an atom, and there can be two electrons to an orbital).
