Valence configurations vs electron configurations

Postby Kainath Kamil Dis 2K » Sun Oct 17, 2021 2:09 am

When writing valence shell configurations, what happens to the d orbital? How would you write the electron config vs valence config for Pb?

Hi. The electron configuration for Pb is 1s2 2s²2p⁶3s² 3p⁶ 3d¹⁰ 4s² 4p⁶ 4d¹⁰ 5s² 5p⁶ 6s² 4f¹⁴ 5d¹⁰ 6p², and I believe the valence configuration for Pb is [Xe]6s² 4f¹⁴ 5d¹⁰ 6p². Sorry I'm sorry really sure what you mean in the first part of your question about the d-orbitals but hope this helps a little.
