Written Configuration for 3d

Postby Tiahna Thomas 2C » Sun Oct 17, 2021 5:11 pm

In the p- block, I know the configurations can be written as p- with a subscript of x, y, and z. I was wondering what the subscripts are for the d- block, as there are five sub-shells, or if there is no subscripts needed?

For d-, there are no subscripts needed. For the d-subshell, these positions of the electrons aren't as fundamental to the atom as the p-subshell would be.

Hello,

When talking about the d-subshell we don't really worry about subscripts.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tiahna, I believe we don't need to worry about the subscripts for configurations involving the d-orbital. I found this article on google that shows all the different subscripts though, if you were interested. Hope this helps!
