Hi, I was wondering if anyone could explain this problem 1E 15 from the textbook? I don't really understand it, and I think the wording is messing me up. Thank you!
Which elements are predicted to have the following ground-state electron configurations of their atoms:
(a) Kr 4d10 5s25 p4
(b) Ar 3d3 4s2
(c) He 2s2 2p2
(d) Rn 7s2 6d2

The question is asking you to find the element whose electron configuration matches the given ground-state electron configurations.
For instance, for the first problem, [Kr]4d^10 5s^2 5p^4 corresponds to Te.

The question basically asks which element from the periodic table would have those electron configurations! As a further example, if we're looking at [He]2s^2 2p^2, we would start from Helium. Then we know that the element we're looking for is past the 2s block. Now that we're onto the 2p block now, we're looking for the element that is the 2nd element in the 2p block, and that would be carbon.
Hope this helps!
