Oxygen vs. Nitrogen

Postby Manav Patel 3L » Tue Dec 05, 2023 1:35 am

Why does the ionization energy of oxygen tend to be higher than that of nitrogen?

Nitrogen has a half-filled electronic configuration and hence its ionization energy is greater than oxygen.
In oxygen, after it loses its electron, it goes to a half-filled electronic configuration and hence, it has less ionization energy than nitrogen.
