Hi! I am a little bit confused why Helium has the highest electron affinity. And what does the number stand for (He <0)? The trend is also not clear to me as there is no pattern.

In lecture, Dr. Lavelle said that there is generally high electron affinity for elements in the top right of the periodic table. This is why Helium has the highest electron affinity.

As Dr. Lavelle implied in class, electron affinity increases across each period (row) and decreases down each column. Because He is at the top right corner (the furthest right and the highest in its column) , it has the highest electron affinity.
