Diagonal Relationship

Can someone explain what a diagonal relationship is / how it arises? I'm kinda confused. Thanks!

I'm assuming that you mean the diagonal relationship of electronegativity? What that means is that electronegativity increases as you move from left to right across a period and decreases as you move down a group. These average of those two trends lead to a diagonal trend line across the periodic table.

Diagonal relationships also exist within other trends and certain pairs of elements I think.

Do you mean elements that are at diagonal positions on the periodic table have similar properties.
