Electron Affinity of Gallium and Indium

Postby Julia Go 2L » Tue Oct 30, 2018 11:13 pm

I noticed that the electron affinity of Gallium and Indium are exactly the same. They are both +29. Can someone please explain why this is? I thought that typically the electron affinity should decrease as you go down a group.

Hi Julia,

Don't worry about this specific problem. It's beyond the scope of this course. Focus more on the general periodic trend of electron affinity.

Hi Julia!

There are some exceptions to the general trends in the periodic table; however, we aren't expected to know them unless they're explicitly stated.

Hope this helped :)
