Electron affinity increases across a period and decreases down a group.

Electron affinity is the energy that is released when an electron is added to a neutral atom. It increases diagonally upward and to the right of the periodic table.

Electron affinity increases across a period and decreases down a group because of the number of valence electrons, as well as valence electron shielding.
