As someone who in unfamiliar with chemistry, what periodic trends are the most important for this class?

Re: Trends
I think the most important trends to know are electronegativity and ionization energy because it will be important with bonding, but in general you should know the ionic radius and electron affinity trends as well (the trends are pretty similar) just in case there's a question on it. I hope this helps!

Re: Trends
Knowing the ionization energy and electron affinity (electronegativity) is probably the most important. It may also help to know the trends in the size of these atoms because it can really help you determine the other two. The other two are important because they can help you determine what will be bonded with what and the type of bond as well.

Re: Trends
I think some of the main trends you should keep in mind are:
Electron affinity:
Lavelle mentioned that this is less periodic but generally there is HIGH electron affinity for elements in the TOP RIGHT of the periodic table (Group 17).
Atomic radius :
increases DOWN the periodic table
increases FROM RIGHT (right being the smallest) TO LEFT (left being the bigger atomic radius)
Ionization Energy:
increases from LEFT to RIGHT
increases from BOTTOM to TOP
Electronegativity:
increases from LEFT TO RIGHT
increases from BOTTOM to TOP
Note: you can see how electroneg. and ionization has the same trend but the atomic radius is the opposite of them.
Hope that helps! :)

Re: Trends
It's important to know that the trend for atomic radius is increasing increasing left and down. The trend for electronegativity and ionization energy is the opposite: increasing up and right.

Re: Trends
You should be familiar with atomic radius, ionization energy, electron affinity, and electronegativity.
