Why are the units for kinetic energy and ionization energy different?

The standard unit used for kinetic energy is "Joules." For ionization energy, it is measured in Kilo Joules/mole or ElectroVolts. The units are all measuring the same thing, but the scale is different. For example, you can use inches, millimeters or even miles to measure different lengths, it would just depend on what you are trying to measure. You can measure the distance from Santa Monica to UCLA in inches, but the number would be really big and messy. The scale between measuring ionization energy and a ball rolling down a ramp are at different scales so you would use different units.
