Electronegativity
Will we have to know general electronegativity trends for this upcoming midterm? I haven't fully solidified my concept of it yet and was wondering how much of it will be necessary for the midterm.

Re: Electronegativity
Most likely we will just need to know that electronegativity increases up a a group and to the right across a period.
Re: Electronegativity
There will be a lot of drawing of lewis structures. a good understanding of electronegativity is essential to drawing the correct lewis structures so it would be good to brush up on it.

Re: Electronegativity
You should know that electronegativity increases as you move to the right (across the row) and increases when you move up. I memorized that F is the most electronegative and I just base the other element's electronegativity off of that!

Re: Electronegativity
You should know the general periodic trends, which will come in handy in multiple choice questions, as well as drawing Lewis structure questions.

Re: Electronegativity
Electronegativity increases as you go across a period and decreases down a group. It is the measure of how strongly atoms attract bonding electrons to themselves.

yes, however we will most likely just need to know that electronegativity increases as you move up and to the right of the periodic table.

Re: Electronegativity
electronegativity increases up and to the right of the period stable. this would be useful in determining things like bond strengths

Re: Electronegativity
Just knowing the general trends of electronegativity will be usual for the midterm and can aid you when trying to determine other problems. For the most part, electronegativity increases from left to right and decreases as you go down the period table.

Re: Electronegativity
I believe knowing that electronegativity increases from left to right and decreases as you move down is enough.

Re: Electronegativity
The general trend is increasing as you move to the right and up. However, the noble gases are excluded.

Re: Electronegativity
Just keep in mind that electronegativity increases up a group and to the right across a period!
