Hi, electron affinity is the amount of energy released when an atom receives an electron. It has a similar trend to ionization energy on the periodic table.

Hi,

Electron affinity refers to the minimum amount of energy required for an electron to be removed from an anion or on the same note, the amount of energy released when an electron is attached to a neutral atom.

This willnot be on midterm one, however there was a question like such on the achieve #12 that will be on the test. That one explained electron affinity in the context of the problem, but electron affinity is the the minimum energy required to remove an electron from a negative ion to produce a neutral atom or molecule.

Electron affinity is the energy change that comes from adding an electron to a gaseous atom. It is the minimum energy needed to remove an electron from an anion in order to produce a neutral atom and it is the energy change that occurs when an atom gains an electron, which releases energy in the process.

Hi! Electron affinity is essentially the amount of energy released when an electron is attached to a neutral atom or molecule in the gaseous state to form a negative ion. Hope this helps!

electron affinity is the energy released when an electron is added to an atom in the gas-phase. It increases as you move across a period and as you move towards the top.
