What is the trend for atomic radius going from top to bottom?

Hi,

Going from top to bottom, or down a group on the periodic table, atomic radius increases. Each period adds a new energy level so the electron cloud becomes bigger and bigger as you move down the periodic table. Because of this, atomic radius increases.

As you go down a group in the periodic table, atomic radius increases because there is an increasing number of electrons, making the radius larger.

The trends for atomic radii are the same as those for ionic radii. As you move down a group, it increases. Then as you move across a period, it decreases.

Hi, atomic radii increases going from top to bottom and decreases as you go from left to right on the periodic table. A good way to remember this is that atomic radius is inversely proportional to ionization energy meaning that their trends are going to be opposite.

Hi! From top to bottom in the periodic table, the atomic radius increases within a group since the atomic number increases as well. Hope this helps!

Atomic radius trends can be seen as from starting from the top right hand corner down to the bottom left hand corner of the periodic table.

I included a website where you will be able to find the periodic table labeled with atomic radius trends: https://sciencenotes.org/what-is-ioniza ... and-trend/

Because going down each level in an atomic group adds an energy level, the atomic radius gets larger and larger the further you go down.

Atomic radius increases going down a group and decreases when going left to right for a period.

Atomic radius increases going from top to bottom. This is because as we go down a group, we are increasing the amount of energy levels. Each energy level is further from the nucleus, which means that the atomic radius is increasing.

Atom radius increases down a group due to the additional of shells.

Down a group it will increase, which makes sense cause there's more electrons in the groups with a higher atomic number.

Atomic radius increases down a group and decreases across a period. Hopefully this was helpful!

As As you go down the periods, the number of shells increases. Therefore, you get electrons further from the nucleus, so the radius also increases.

Atomic radius increases as you move down the periodic table because each new period adds a new energy level for the electrons to occupy.

Additionally, as you move left to right (across a period), the atomic radius decreases because atomic number increases as you move across a period, while shielding remains constant. Now, refer back to the effective nuclear charge equation, increasing atomic number while keeping shielding constant would increase the effective nuclear charge, causing stronger electron attraction to the nucleus. In simple terms, since the electrons move closer due to the attraction the radii decreases.

As you go down a column or group, the atomic radius increases. As you go across a row or period, it decreases.
