Atomic Radius

Postby Samidha Menon 1E » Sat Dec 04, 2021 11:49 am

When talking about atomic radius, why would Br- be larger than Kr?

Br- is larger than Kr because Kr has a greater effective nuclear charge. This is because Kr has one more proton than Br- meaning that Kr has more attractive force working on the valence electrons, therefore, making the atomic radius smaller.
