Formula unit

Postby Ahjin Kim 2B » Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:53 am

What exactly is "formula unit?" I just have in my head to use the avogadro's number with this term but I'm still not sure what the exact definition is.

The distinction between atoms, molecules, and formula units doesn't seem to matter much for calculations. You would multiply the number of moles by Avogadro's constant in any situation that requires you to find an amount of any of these.
Technically speaking, a formula unit is the lowest whole number ratio of a compound with an ionic bond.
