Formula unit

What exactly does the textbook mean when it talks about formula units, and how does this differ from molecules? Thanks!

I think this means the amount of “things” in regard to avagadros number. Like formula units of hydrogen in H20 would be two times the moles present times avagadros number.

A formula unit is the absolute grouping of atoms or the empirical formula. C2H5 is a formula unit. If there are two formula units, then the formula is C4H10.
